advent and christmas at AOC

beginning nov 30th - Advent bible study

The annual celebration of Christmas includes many holiday gatherings with family, friends, and others from diverse backgrounds, each with their own beliefs about truth. Questions may arise regarding the existence of a knowable truth, such as whether a Christ-child was truly born in a manger in Bethlehem. As a Christian, how will you respond to these discussions? Will you engage at all? In 1 Peter 3:15, Christians are encouraged to “be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to explain the hope that you hold,” and to approach these conversations with gentleness and respect.

Beginning on Wednesday, November 20th, we will engage in a five-week introduction on the topic of Christian Apologetics using the online course by Dr. Adam Francisco, who is Director of Academics and a Scholar in Residence at 1517 (www.1517.org).

After the presentation and discussion is finished each week, we will pray the brief but beautiful Office of Compline (LSB 253) as our closing devotion. The last three weeks of this class (12/4, 12/11, 12/18) will constitute our Midweek Advent services.

Please sign up ahead of time and indicate whether you will be attending in-person or by Zoom. The sign-up sheet is located by the Fellowship Hall.
